DURABILITY
FADE TEST: After 100 hours exposure in an Atlas Fadeometer, brown nylon sample showed only slight fading. A slight lightening of exposed area was noted after 40 hours.
STAIN TEST: Coffee, oil, vinegar, ammonia, soft drink, lemon, juice, ink, whiskey, beer, chalk, lipstick and crayon were applied to two samples then wiped off after five minutes. Brown nylon lightened slightly from bleach and vinegar, stained slightly from lipstick. Blue nylon showed slight pile rub-off from ammonia. Both samples were completely unaffected by all other materials.
ABRASION TEST: 2,550 cycles of a Tabor Abrasor were needed to wear 90 mil nylon through to adhesive. 550 cycles were needed to wear 55 blue nylon through to adhesive.
SOUND-ABSORPTION TEST: A range from .01 sound absorption coefficient at frequency of 125hz to .27 at a frequency of 4000hz were recorded during reverberation room test on nylon fibers adhered to 1/4" thick hardboard.
FLAME SPREAD TUNNEL TEST: 90 mil nylon fibers adhered by with our standard fire retardant adhesive to 1/4" asbestos cement board had FLAME SPREAD of 8, FUEL Contributed Factor of 4 and SMOKE DENSITY FACTOR of 0. This compares with 100 rating for red oak flooring in all three categories.
SALT SPRAY TEST: After 50 hours of exposure to heat, humidity and salt mist, nylon samples showed no signs of discoloration or loss of adhesion.
WEATHER O METER TEST: Nylon samples showed no signs of fading or discoloration after 350 hours of exposure in a Atlas Weather O Meter (ultra-violet light with 18 minutes of water spray in each two hour period).
CHLORINE TEST: Four nylon samples submerged in 16% chlorine solution at room temperature for 200 hours showed no loss of adhesion, color fade or other failure.
FREEZE THAW TEST: Samples were sprayed with water and placed in -20 degrees F cold box for one hour, then sprayed with boiling water until all ice was melted. After 10 cycles of this freezing/thawing, no loss of adhesion or loss of fibers was noted.
