Out of the mist of the Appalachian Mountians and out of the mist of time a man named William Nix made his way through a virgin wilderness. With his wife Frances he traveled into lands never seen before by most white men. Along the way he left a legacy of children that would grow to help populate this land and in their own small way shape it's future.
Where did William Nix come from? Who were his parents?
These are questions that seem shrouded in mystery and lost somewhere in the mist of those times. Check out the Nix Family Tree site for an update on William Nix's DNA. We still do not know the names of William Nix's parents but we can follow the DNA trail to Edward Nix born abt 1689 VA - 1776 SC
I want your views on whether or not I should remove the confederate flags from the site. I have never wanted to promote prejudice or hatred, I have wanted to promote a better understanding of our family history. Please let me know what you think and I will make a decision in the next month or so about whether or not to remove them, based mainly on the feedback I receive from you.

This web site doesn't promote racism. It does promote family history. The confederate battle flag is a symbol of part of that history and for better or worse it represents an important part of American history. There were over 560 Nix's in the Civil War on both sides, my branch of the family just happened to fight for the South. These men fought for their families, their homes and their country. I am sure they still would if they could, no matter what flag might be flying over it at the time.
This web site is always under construction and is dedicated to our dad, Jack Wayne Nix.
I am also including some text from the Prince and Rodriguez website on the next page...I am not sure if Pedro Nix really existed or not but if he didn't he should have. Either way it's a darn good story and he fits in pretty good so I will let you check it out and decide.
The sources of the surname data are the 1850 Census, 1880 Census, 1920 Census, and 1990's phone books. Note that the Census data is a sampling of 1 in 100 names, so the 1990 data is the most accurate.
