The following is an announcement from the Nix Surname DNA Project
If you have not checked out their site you should....It has lots of good Nix info and Nix DNA results.

Hello Nix DNA project members and Nix family tree researchers. 2007 is almost at an end, so I wanted to take a moment to send out a brief summary of what has been happening with the DNA project over the last year.
We have grown to now include over 25 project members from various Nix family lines who have been DNA tested. Nix families with origins in the United States, Canada, Australia, Ireland, Britain, and Germany are currently participating. From the test results, we now know there are at least 7 different genetically unrelated Nix families. As the project continues to grow, this number will likely increase further.
Some of the more interesting developments this year have been:
1. We have discovered there are at least two genetically unrelated groups of Nixes from Ireland that had members immigrate to the US. A third unrelated American Nix group, whose immigrant ancestor is not known, also has DNA results indicating an ancient Irish origin. It appears the Nix families of Ireland may be a complicated picture. Hopefully we can obtain more data on them in the coming years.
2. We have a second Australian Nix family tested that matches our other Australian Nix family. Both have immigrant ancestors from the Lincolnshire area of the UK.
3. We discovered an unexpected genetic match between the Nix families of Union Co, SC and the families of Rutherford Co, NC. Both those lines have been traced to the colonial period without any papertrail indication of a connection. This matching result came as a big surprise to most researchers working on those families.
Some of the things we'd especially like to accomplish in the upcoming year:
1. We would like to increase the number of European project members or the number of families with known origins that can be traced to particular areas of Europe. Establishing which areas of Europe are populated by which Nix families would be extremely useful to Nix researchers living in former European colonies.
2. We would like to get some African-American Nix families to participate in the project.
3. We would like to get some descendents of the Nix families from colonial era New Jersey in the project also.
Thanks again to all the project members and family tree researchers who have been such a great help all year round. I hope everyone has a merry christmas and happy new year!
PS This month I got a new house, so my address has changed. If anyone needs to mail me stuff, email me first so I can send you my new address.
